Today we rode our bikes to Kutztown, made progress on the air conditioner installation, picked raspberries, and chose Tabby Cat Gray for the living room walls.

Home Maintenance Holiday, Hooray!

Part of enjoying life as antique dealers is taking time off to do other things. This summer we already had our Great Smoky Mountains hiking trip in Tennessee and a trip to the Adirondacks in New York.   We have lots of nice photos of rocky trails, waterfalls, and mountain views from those trips.  Now we start our Home Maintenance Holiday. Every summer we take some time to do a combination of home maintenance projects and local walking and hiking. This summer we'll mix some bicycle riding in with that, too, something we haven't done for a few years.  Last summer we attacked the killer brush pile, replaced our storm door, and painted some windows during the home maintenance holiday. Other years we have scraped and painted the front porch, replaced a window, coated the basement walls, weeded the gardens, pruned the trees, painted the bilco doors for the basement, replaced the mailbox, etc.  Today we took a hike to Dan's Pulpit on the Appalachian Trail and worked on replacing our built in air conditioner.

Perfection?

We buy old work shop and factory parts that we can make into tables or lamps. Some of our customers make tables and lamps, too, so sometimes we sell the parts to them.  These stands were designed by George S. Weinerth of Reading, PA, an inventor with many patents for textile industry machinery. He also invented spark plugs. We like that these stands are cast iron and adjustable. Clearly, they are Perfection. But what are they?

Metal's the thing

We love mixing wood with metal, so we were happy to see that our customers still wanted metal furniture this spring.  One hit was this pair of antique aluminum lounge chairs. They have decorative cast aluminum legs and folding awning supports. 

Don't throw it away

Speaking of Use it Up...Wear it Out, these Mendets could be used to patch a pot.  They are worthless today, at least collectors aren't interested in them, but they are helpful if you are trying to understand your parents or grandparents.
